This collection contains architectural construction documents and drawings beginning with the work of Gordon Ferguson, Engineer and Architect and ending with the recent work from SMPC Architects in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The collection has samples of major residential and commercial work created for Albuquerque and other New Mexico towns and cities. The scope of work shows the range of projects built as the firm grew over time to become the oldest architecture firm in the state of New Mexico.

In 1944, Gordon Ferguson, a part-time architect and professor, formed what would later become known as SMPC Architects, the oldest architectural firm in continuous business in New Mexico. Mr. Ferguson initially worked from his home but as the firm grew he relocated his office to Amherst Drive in the historic Nob Hill neighborhood of Albuquerque. The University of New Mexico was established by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico in 1889. It was to be located in Albuquerque. Elias Stover was appointed the first president.
